Autumn Fire, an Ancasterbased web development and Internet marketing company, boasts a 10-year history of helping local businesses get noticed online. When Scott Vallance started his business, he wanted to choose a name that would attract attention.“Autumn is my favorite season and I wanted the name to start with the letter “A”, he said. Vallance works collaboratively with graphic artists and programmers to provide: web page design solutions, motion graphics, web applications,
web hosting, logo design, online marketing, online video and webbased newsletters. His interest in computers in college eventually led to the creation of Autumn Fire. Prior to launching a career in web development, Vallance owned Morrison Ice, a packaged ice company. While he was there he had the opportunity to transition the paper-based business to a computer.
After 10 years, he sold the company to Arctic Glacier. Since then, his work with computers has become much more sophisticated.
Today, Vallance works with clients to create websites that will get their business or organization noticed through search engine
optimization.“Anyone can promise to get a website to the top of a search engine, but what it comes down to is good content,”
he said. With the evolution of websites, clients now have the option to change their own content whenever they choose, through a
Content Management System (CMS).
But Vallance says not all business owners want control, as they feel they are too busy to update their site and would rather
hire someone to do it for them. He says the types of websites his clients want is always changing, especially with the emergence
of social media tools such as blogging and social networking. Many businesses are moving away from informational sites and toward
interactive sites that allow them to communicate with consumers. But Vallance enjoys the fact that web development is always advancing.
“I like how it changes all the time. I enjoy technology and keeping up with it.
My job allows me to meet a lot of interesting people and see all types of business.”
